Gym Locker Room

If you’re looking to revamp or create a new changing room for your gym, there are a wide range of gym locker designs available. In this guide, we’re highlighting the various styles and considerations to create a good experience for your members.

If you’re designing bespoke lockers, there are a range of elements to consider:

Height

There are many locker sizes to suit different customer needs. This includes taller lockers for hanging coats or smaller ones for gym bags. Compact security lockers are also ideal for storing valuables like phones, keys, and wallets.

Do you want to offer your customers a premium experience with a locker that’s tall enough to hang up their winter coats and clothes? By inserting a rail and adding a few hangers, customers can keep their clothes safe while they train. This is ideal for 24-hour gyms, where professionals may want to train before work and get changed afterwards without creasing their attire.

Locks and locker numbers

You’ll also want to consider the style of lock. Customers want to know that their locker won’t get broken into with ease, but they also want a lock and key system that isn’t too much hassle.

The type of lock that gym-goers may be most used to seeing is a simple key-style lock. You can hand over a unique key on a silicone wrist keychain, which they can keep on their wrist while they work out. For this type of locking system, you’ll want to make sure the numbers are clear on both the key and the locker.

Or, if you’re managing a more premium gym experience, you may even want to provide a digit code lock, becoming increasingly popular over key locks. From your side, the added benefit is that these locks can be set on an automatic unlocking timer to prevent lockers from being reserved for long periods, ensuring fair use for everyone.

Colours

Your choice of locker colour will very much depend on the overall branding and aesthetic of your gym.

Ventilation

Having a minimum of two ventilation grids in locker units allows for proper airflow to keep the interior fresh and odour free.

Hinges

With hinges certified to a minimum of 80,000 opening cycles, this ensures they’re durable and suitable for commercial use without the risk of breakage.

LED

LED lights around the lockers not only elevate their appearance but also create a premium feel in changing rooms.

Optional extras for a premium gym experience

Want to offer a premium service and stand out against your competitors? How you fit-out your lockers could really enhance the experience and convenience for your customers.

Handles

Handles are available as an optional extra, as many lockers can function without them for a more minimalist look. There are a range of handles to choose from for gym lockers. If you’re offering a sophisticated experience, you may want to add ergonomic designs that are comfortable and easy to use.

USB socket

Want to let your customers safely charge their mobile phones while they work out? Adding a USB socket to your lockers is a great way to do this.

Mirror

Adding a mirror will offer a quick way for people to check how they look before they leave the gym and get on with the rest of the day.

Shoe rack

As well as offering space for customers to hang their clothes, you could also allocate a space for them to put their shoes.

Document holder

For professionals who use the gym, a document holder could be a nifty extra feature for a locker.

Cleanliness

Additional considerations may also include getting an antibacterial powder coating for added hygiene—something that all gym enthusiasts can appreciate.
