Sports Direct’s First UK Gym Equipped By Gymkit UK
Retail sports giant Sports Direct chose Gymkit UK Solutions to equip their first UK flagship gym in Aintree in Surrey. From a reception counter to retail display cabinets, lockers, showers and vanity units, the strong two-tone colour scheme and clean lines flow throughout the club, creating a premium look.
Secure Lockers With A Premium Finish
A mix of L-shaped and 2-column lockers with full hanging compartments and bag holders were installed in the changing rooms.
For an enhanced quality feel, Sports Direct opted for "anti-slam" soft closures on the doors. The design team chose an off-standard "Volcano Grey" finish with a deep-textured feel on the locker doors and benches.
Smaller security lockers, conveniently located opposite the reception, were also installed for members to safely store their wallets and phones.
A padlock locking mechanism was chosen for simplicity and security while offering upsell opportunities for the club.
Vanity Units With LED Lights & Hairdryers
Vanity units were supplied with integrated cool white LED lighting in pelmets over mirrors and built-in hairdryer points.
Volcano Grey was again the finish of choice to complement the lockers and benches. Backlit mirrors and modern sanitary ware were also supplied for the washrooms with a waterproof High-Pressure Laminate (HPL) finish.
Shower Cubicles & Doors
Gymkit Solutions also supplied shower cubicles and doors in matching 2-tone colours using waterproof HPL material.
Frames, towel hooks and fixtures were also supplied in a brushed aluminium finish for a neat, uncluttered look.
Reception Counter & Retail Display
Sports Direct chose a reception counter from our “Square” range. The counter features cool white LED lighting to frame the counter and accentuate the Volcano Grey finish.
The colour scheme and finish of the reception were selected to match the lockers, providing design continuity from the moment members enter the club.
Opposite the reception is a small retail point with LED-lit display cabinets to merchandise shop items such as towels, water bottles, sports nutrition products and padlocks.

Our design department worked closely with retail sports giant Sports Direct Fitness on the finishes and design of their new flagship club in Aintree.
Sports Direct wanted a clean look in the key touchpoints of their club, with quality finishes to match.
Located in an area densely populated with both high-end health clubs and low-cost gyms, they wanted to compete at both ends of the spectrum—with an affordable membership price and high-quality changing rooms, reception and washrooms, we helped them create one of the most competitive club models in the UK.

Today, the gym offers an impressive range of on-trend fitness classes, including body combat and spin classes, as well as providing personal trainers, catering to all fitness abilities.
